The spiral is a powerful symbol across many cultures and the mainspring has been the source of power for clocks for centuries.

In the brain of an artist, the mainspring is a source of tremendous power, yet it can be a delicate balance: spiralling inward is the path to creativity, but also insanity; spiraling outward is the path to expression, but also judgement.

Potential energy is acheived by winding the spring inward upon itself, but without outward release, the spring will break and become inert, unable to drive the clock. There is also the possibility the broken spring will lash out, destroying the clock.

The interplay between imagination, creativity, drive, and insanity plays out in frozen time in this skull.
